Bungee Jumping

Completed October 9, 2021

This is the one that started the list. My dad and I had been discussing bungee jumping in late 2019 as something we both wanted to do. We have both gone skydiving and ziplining in the past, so this seemed like a natural thing to add to both of our lists of things to try. As we all know, 2020 happened and all of the places I had researched for our bungee jumping adventure were closed for the entire year. Things started to open up and look promising for 2021, so dad and I discussed it once again because bungee jumping businesses operate from summer through fall.

When dad died suddenly in June of 2021, we were all devastated and I looked for ways to honor him and live life like he did after mom died in November 2018 – living life to the fullest, with purpose, and getting as much out of the time we have left. Still adrift in the sea of grief, I went skydiving to feel closer to him in September and then started coming up with my 40 Before 40 list.

The very first thing I added and scheduled was bungee jumping. My list wasn’t even done yet and I had it on there. I wanted to get living IMMEDIATELY. Lucky for me, Vertigo Bungee just outside of Lexington, Kentucky had bungee sessions available, I just had to pick a date. Here’s my original post about my experience –

“An absolutely transcendental experience today. Holy fuck, that was beautiful. My dad and I were supposed to bungee jump this year, and today, the four month anniversary of his death, I jumped off a bridge and got to feel so very alive knowing he would have LOVED the experience and would have done multiple jumps. It was everything I wanted it to be and more.”

I 100% would do it again. It was incredible.
