Family Portraits - Shae Style

Who said family pictures had to be normal? A few months back I saw the work of Liz Uniques Photography and I knew I wanted to do a photoshoot with her. I decided to do a swamp witch theme in one of my favorite places to run: Marshall Swamp. There’s a long bridge about a mile from the trailhead that would be amazing to take photos at and she agreed.

The day of the shoot was great, she and her assistant brought a wagon with her equipment. One fun thing about the swamp was that the previous two days, I had run it and seen two cottonmouths both days. They were also out there as well. While I was getting in the mud and water of the swamp, we had to keep an eye on one of the snakes (they’re venomous) to make sure they kept away from me. If it got too close to where we were, a rake was used to shoo it away.

We spent about an hour in the swamp and I got so muddy and dirty and smelled like swamp death, but it was so amazing. One thing I really love about her work are the aftereffects. She added in a flame in the lantern she set up and the day before the shoot, she had photographed the cats at home and then put them into the main photo afterward. I am sooooo in love with this shoot and cannot thank her enough for making my swamp witch dreams come true.
